FACTORS OF STRESS

Each session in this module will present a factor or cause of work stress.

In the second half of each session, you will be guided to reflect and meditate on your personal experiences with the topic of the day.

The purpose of this session structure is to allow you, to broaden your consciousness about these factors of working life.

Doing so can help you prevent and manage stress, as well as strengthening and supporting your psychological health.

We hope you will enjoy this module and that it may serve its purpose.

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.

Work overload is defined as a dysfunctional or unsustainable workload and work overload is one of the most common causes of stress.

Sometimes we strangely seem to value an unsustainable workload. So today we spend a moment thinking about how to make intelligent choices regarding our workload.

If you are suffering from work overload,
what happens to you on an emotional level?
What happens to you on a mental leve?.

Today - become conscious about your workload.
Create a more conscious relationship
to the amount of work you do.

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.

2. Complexity

When something is complex, it consists of multiple, interconnected and interwoven parts.

A complex work task could imply handling multiple smaller tasks, that exist in relation to each other and influence each other.

Complexity can inspire creativity, foster a new understanding and cultivate a strong performance. But, it does often come with a lot of uncertainty and difficult decision-making.

Uncertainty and difficult decision-making are common causes of stress.

Today - become conscious about the parts of your work that are complex. Become conscious about the uncertainty you might experience, as a result of difficult decision-making.

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.

3. Monotony
FACTORS OF STRESS

Monotonous work tasks are defined by sameness, repetition and routine.

Our monotonous work tasks can form parts of our work that are relaxing and saturated by certainty.
They can even be meditative.

However, it is also common to be unhappy with monotonous work tasks. To experience meaninglessness and incidentally unhealthy forms of stress.

So today, become conscious about parts of your work, characterized by some kind of monotony.

Can your monotonous work become meditative? Can you do something to change or avoid unhealthy and stress-inducing monotonous work tasks?

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.

4. Role ambiguity
FACTORS OF STRESS

x

Role ambiguity entails not being sure about our responsibilities and the expectations of the people we work with.

We can experience role ambiguity when we do not have a clearly defined and comprehensible job description.

Role ambiguity can be a normal part of our development, engagement in new work areas and taking on new challenges.

However; dysfunctional role ambiguity entails unhealthy forms of uncertainty and can lead to stress.

Today - become conscious of whether and in what way you experience role ambiguity at your work.  Decide to overcome unhealthy forms of role ambiguity.

We  wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.

5. Training
FACTORS OF STRESS

Training is about being and feeling equipped for the tasks, we must perform.

Learning and training require a lot of extra energy. When we are not conscious about the extra energy learning and training requires,  we much more easily become stressed.

So today, become conscious about the parts of your work where you are still learning and training.

Perhaps decide to honour and respect the extra energy, training and learning demands. Intelligently understanding, when you need recovery.

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious mind.

6. Communication
FACTORS OF STRESS

x

Respectful forms of communication are pivotal to the prevention and management of stress.

Respectful communication is in some ways a very simple skill. Something to be expected and demanded.
Though from some points of view it can seem complex.

Today, become conscious about your experiences
with being communicated to in different ways.

What can you do to minimize the stress that originates in the way different people communicate with you?

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.

7. Locus of control
FACTORS OF STRESS

x

Locus of control is a concept that describes our experience of being in control.

In terms of stress prevention and management, our experience of being in control is more important than the reality of how much control we actually have.

Feelings of not being in control can be very stressful.
Intelligent acceptance of things we can’t control, can strengthen our feelings of being in control, even in chaotic and uncontrollable situations.

Today, become conscious about situations, where you feel out of control in a stressful way. What can you do to change these experiences?

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.

8. Experienced justice
FACTORS OF STRESS

x

The world is an unjust place.

The human value of justice helps us form the experience that each one of us has value in our own right -unconditionally.

Experiencing justice is important for our well-being, and for prevention and management of stress.

Today, become conscious about when and where, you experience justice and injustice. Investigate whether you can do something to change the injustice you experience.

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.

9. Experiencing meaning
FACTORS OF STRESS

x

0

Experiencing meaning is important for your general well-being.

Sometimes we become too good at ignoring our need for experiencing meaning.

Because what we need to do to survive seems to be in contradiction to what feels meaningful.

Experiencing meaning is closely linked to our values.

Living in integrity with our values is a great recipe for experiencing meaning

Today, become conscious about how and when you have an experience of meaningfulness in relation to your work.

We wish you an inspired,
calm and conscious state of mind.
